What are the best new sources for driving traffic to a new website?

Almost all the ideas given below are cheap. They don't charge much if you can get your hands on the right ones.

I was into internet marketing a few years back but I don't know if the same points are relevant these days.

Blogs : Blog about every feature you have, post the links where ever you think your target crowd will linger. Make the blogs with images and good font. And then find popular blogs on your niche. Pay those bloggers to write good reviews about your site and features. If the blog is popular enough, that should fetch you a few thousand hits at minimum.

Referral : If your product can implement referrals in any way then do it. Referrals are an amazing way to get new users. If you are charging money then say that if a user refers new members then he won't be charged.

Offers : Act as if your product is really popular. Have Christmas deals, offers etc.

Forums : These are one of the constant source of users. Find a forum which is into your niche. Pay to be one those elite members and then use it advertise in your signature, etc and ask other members to do it, while advertising something for them. This should bring you a lot of users if done well.

Make it exclusive : Users love it if they feel that your product is exclusively for themselves. So try and show it as exclusive even if it is not.

Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Hacker News : Keep those updated about your product and make the title and content interesting (if you cannot, then pay someone to do it. There are many content writers on the internet for hire). Always try and show what you want through images rather than text. This will make more users read them. Create fake users and use them to create false hype about your product. Make it as subtle as possible.

Forget about profits : Don't think about profits in the beginning and only concentrate on getting critical mass (if it applies to your product). You can use them to monetize later.

Don't forget Google : AdWords can help you get a lot of users and Google frequently gives AdWords offers ( They twice offered me $1500 worth free advertising to get me started. Don't miss those! ) if you just create an account.

Social : Give links for them like it on Facebook, tweet it on Twitter, and +1 on G+ everywhere. It should be such that, the moment they think "This is cool", they should have a button visible to them to share it. But don't over do it, as it screws up your site looks.

Analytics : Use Google analytics and go through all the statistics carefully and improve the ones which are giving better results and lose the ones which are useless.

Emails : Once a user signs up on your site, don't forget about him. Keep pestering him with emails ( not too many. He will block you. ), so your site/product will stay on his mind and he won't forget about it. This is very important for user retention.

All the best for your product.
1. Advertise
Paid search, social media advertising and display advertising are all excellent ways of attracting visitors, building your brand and getting your site in front of people. Adjust your paid strategies to suit your goals –do you just want more traffic, or are you looking to increase conversions, too? Each paid channel has its pros and cons, so think carefully about your objectives before you reach for your credit card.
If you’re hoping that more traffic to your site will also result in more sales, you’ll need to target high commercial intent keywords as part of your paid search strategies. Yes, competition for these search terms can be fierce (and expensive), but the payoffs can be worth it.
2. Get Social
It’s not enough to produce great content and hope that people find it – you have to be proactive. One of the best ways to increase traffic to your website is to use social media channels to promote your content. Twitter is ideal for short, snappy (and tempting) links, whereas Google+ promotion can help your site show up in personalized search results and seems especially effective in B2B niches. If you’re a B2C product company, you might find great traction with image-heavy social sites like Pinterest and Instagram.
